A simple yet overlooked method to confronting difficult situations

Life is made up of moments — some happy and some filled with life lessons. If something positive occurs in our life, we are ecstatic. However, if we experience a setback, then we spiral into negative thinking, sadness, and wonder why this is happening to us.

Like everyone else, I have had my fair share of setbacks in life, and I am sure there are many more to come. Every time I had to confront a negative situation, I would be sad and spend a lot of time complaining about it. My behavior sometimes amplified the magnitude of the situation and stopped me from resolving it.

During one such setback, I decided to change my perspective. I accepted that I had no control over the situation, and I had to keep my feelings aside to confront the problem. Guess what? It worked. I was able to analyze the problem and list all the different possible ways that could resolve it. Hence, I decided to share it with you so that I could help you—at least a teeny bit.

3 step process to changing your perspective

Accept that you have no control in life

I want you to understand that no matter what you do, you have no control in life. You will have ups and downs when you least expect it. Do not be bogged down by it.

Life will put you through the wringer and test your will. If you are currently in this situation, let life test you. Keep going forward, no matter what.

Accept that the only things you can control are your emotions and how you react to situations.

Be calm

Experiencing emotions is a part of being human. But do not let your emotions control you. Sadness and having a negative outlook towards life can inhibit your brain from formulating solutions. If you are negative, your mind gives up and assumes that all doors are closed.

When you are experiencing a setback, take a break. After that, bounce back.

Calm your mind. Take a pen and a paper and jot down all the ways that can help you to resolve your problem.

Calmness is the key to surviving stressful times. During this process, please be patient with yourself.

Do not give up

Sadness and our inner critic can often magnify a situation and urge us to give up. But here’s what I want you to do — Silence that voice. The problems that you face are not you. They are here to reveal your potential and capabilities.

If humans can manage to travel in outer space and continue to innovate each day, I am sure you possess the key to your problems. No matter how tough they seem, remember that you are tougher.

Changing your perspectives can be difficult, but keep at it. Do not fret if it is a negative situation. You have been through much more difficult phases in life, and you shall go through this one as well with the same strength you showed before. ❤
